Lively, mouthfilling brambly fruit

Lively, mouthfilling brambly fruit

The primitivo grape hails from the heel of Italy and was thought to be the parent of what the Americans now call Zinfandel (although we know know it isn't). There are strong similarities in that full brambly flavours, a touch of spice alongside fullness and weight seem to be the hallmarks of these wines. This lively example from the Salento region is a perfect match for the highly flavoured dishes of Italian cuisine.

Excellent little wine.

This could be overlooked when searching for wine but that would be a shame.

A great little wine, good flavour great taste and good value. Well worth a try.

Nice Italian wine at a good price

This is a rich red with very plummy flavours and well worth trying.

A little beauty for the money!

A well rounded, easy drinking, bottle of wine with a hint of flinty oak on the back of the palate. Delicious with food or on its own.

OK, without the 'A'

We're great fans of the Primitivo grape, alongside others from the south of Italy or Sicily: in fact, pre-pandemic our 'house red' was a (dare I say!) well-known s*p*rm*rk*t's offering. Our only disappointment with this, notwithstanding its smooth, full flavour is the degree of oak, which slightly detracts from the character of the grape.
