Winner of the World Whiskies Awards, Best English Rye 2021, Adnams Rye Malt Whisky is made from a mash bill of 25% East Anglian malted barley and 75% rye. Our rye is grown by Jonathan Adnams at his farm in Reydon, just up the road from our distillery in Southwold. Rye is a complex grain that creates a thick, syrup-like 'mash' due to its protein structure and ability to retain water. The resulting whisky has great depth and character and a drier, spicier finish. Our Rye Whisky has spent at least five years in brand new French oak barrels before bottling.

  • Evening Standard

It's a lively drink, the kind of whisky to sip through a party - it's certainly not sleep-inducing.

  • The Independent

Here, the rye gives the whisky a great depth of character, aged for at least five years in brand new French oak Bordeaux casks. Bold oaky vanilla aromas are joined by some fudge and black peppercorn, while the palate is rich and slightly spicy, with spice continuing on the long finish. Best served neat, with a splash of water, or as an alternative to bourbon in Old Fashioned cocktails, with a few dashes of angostura bitters and brown sugar.

Description

Made from a mash bill of 25% East Anglian malted barley and 75% rye, Adnams Rye Malt Whisky has been matured in new French oak for at least five years. Winner of the World Whiskies Awards, Best English Rye 2021, it has lovely aromas of warm vanilla, raisin fudge and black peppercorns with a smooth, rich, and spicy palate. Delicious on its own, or in any classic whisky cocktail.

How does it taste

On the nose you will find Christmas cake’s candied fruit and spices, marzipan, vanilla, chocolate, and black peppercorns. On the palate, there’s spicy rye bread, raisin fudge, honey, and hedgerow fruit. The finish is long, with notes of pepper, coffee, and a honeyed sweetness.

This Rye is excellent

Used I. Manhattan and old fashioned. And with a dash of water. I happy to get Broadside beer here. Which got me started with your spirits. Enjoyed Fisher’s gin which is a neighbour of yours. I like to sip Rye into the night whilst working on drawings and sculptures

Rye whisky.

Very good, very expensive but good. Perhaps too expensive to consider a regular order but very good taste anyway.

Rye Rave

A gorgeous quite delicate whisky with plenty of depth. I thought it had a lovely sweet finish to it.
