Authentic and
full of character
Synonymous with pub firesides, fresh sea air and the distant sound of crashing waves, our bitter and our hometown are so intertwined that a call of, ‘Southwold,’ sings out from every bar. Its branding depicts local icon, Southwold Jack, highlighting our sense of place. This small wooden figure stands guard on the brewery wall and is based on an original ‘Clock Jack’, in nearby St Edmunds Church. Brewed with local barley from Holkham in North Norfolk, Southwold also receives a late dose of Fuggles hops. First sold commercially in 1871 in Kent, the year before Adnams was founded, Fuggles are revered as the classic English aroma hop. Their careful selection has helped us maintain continuity over the years. Another enduring element is our in-house yeast, which we’ve used since the 1940s. It makes a beer uniquely Adnams, and breathes life, as well as flavour into Southwold.
