Lively, mouthfilling brambly fruit

Lively, mouthfilling brambly fruit

The primitivo grape hails from the heel of Italy and was thought to be the parent of what the Americans now call Zinfandel (although we know know it isn't). There are strong similarities in that full brambly flavours, a touch of spice alongside fullness and weight seem to be the hallmarks of these wines. This lively example from the Salento region is a perfect match for the highly flavoured dishes of Italian cuisine.
Lively, mouthfilling brambly fruit
  • The Guardian

Brilliant value from Italy’s heel, on the Salento peninsula, a ripe and effortlessly mouth filling red made from the region’s signature variety. With bundles of sweet plummy and dark cherry rich fruit and a refreshing hint of aniseed it’s ideal for burgers and barbecues.

Best buy

This wine was selected as ‘the best buy’ in a review by David Williams, the Observer wine critic. He’s a fine judge and the wine is to be highly recommended. The Primativo really showcases the sun drenched fruit (think Damson jelly) and is soft and warm on the palate, with a hint of spice and oak. I would also add that the staff at Adnams stores are highly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to assist me in locating stock.

A little beauty for the money!

A well rounded, easy drinking, bottle of wine with a hint of flinty oak on the back of the palate. Delicious with food or on its own.
