Picpoul de Pinet is an appellation in southern France's Languedoc region, specialising in zippy, aromatic whites made exclusively from Picpoul grapes. Its Mediterranean climate and proximity to the Étang de Thau saltwater lagoon conveys fresh characteristics and a strong marine influence. Pale yellow in colour with green highlights, its delicate floral aromas persist through overtones of citrus fruit. Picpoul means ‘lip stinger,’ so it’s crisp and tangy, with notes of green apples, lemon, and refreshing grapefruit flavours. Its hints of salinity and a persistent finish elevate Mediterranean seafood, and buttered asparagus.
