A Burgundian red from the fantastic 2019 vintage
Pierre Boillot is a master of both the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits, inheriting his Gevrey vineyards from his father’s side of the family – Domaine Lucien Boillot – and his Volnay, Pommard and Puligny vineyards from his grandfather, Henri Boillot. Until 2003, Pierre worked with his cousin, Jean-Marc Boillot, on his eponymous domaine until he decided to focus all his attention on Domaine Lucien Boillot. With just over 7 hectares, 0.54 of which make up the Les Angles plot, planted in 1961, Pierre’s style is one of restrained understatement. The fruit and the terroir take the starring roles rather than the winemaking, whereby Pierre aims to intervene as little as possible in both the vineyard and cellar. Never flashy, these are wines which are restrained in youth but develop beautifully into real classics.
