Ripe, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon from a renowned Californian estate

Ripe, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon from a renowned Californian estate

It was at the famed Napanook vineyard in California that Christian Moueix established Dominus Estate in 1983. An historical site, the vineyard’s history can be traced back to Napa Valley’s beginnings, when in 1838 George Yount, for whom the town of Yountville was named, first planted grapevines there. Today, the vineyard produces three wines: Dominus, its flagship, Napanook, and Othello. Othello originally came from the younger vines, with an aim to produce a wine that was both accessible and enjoyable in its youth. A model for sustainability, the estate has been hailed for its dry-farming, which shuns the use of water in the vineyard, and minimal intervention in both vineyard and winery. In 2021, Dominus Estate was certified for organic farming practices.

Description

A Bordeaux blend, the 2019 Othello has a particularly high percentage of Petit Verdot (15%) which adds a floral note to the wine. The nose is a heady concentration of ripe dark fruits, which are spiced with clove, cedar, and sage flavours. This is a hybrid between new world punchiness and old world restraint. Pair with steaks and cheeses, such as aged Comté.

How does it taste

Notes of ripe dark fruits, spice and herbs, with smooth, silky tannins and a bright acidity.
