From the iconic Super Tuscan estate Ornellaia

Established in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is part of a family that has over 700 years of winemaking experience. The estate is also one of the original Super Tuscan producers. Indeed, Lodovico’s cousin is Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, founder of Sassicaia, and brother of Piero Antonori who started Solaia at Tenuta Tignanello. Situated in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, in the past parts of the Ornellaia estate were covered by the Mediterranean Sea. Plantings are dominated by Bordeaux varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot amongst others. Le Serre Nuove, the estate’s second wine, was introduced in 1997 and is made from younger vines with a higher percentage of Merlot in the blend than Ornellaia.

Description

The second wine of the iconic Ornellaia estate, Le Serre Nuove is a Bordeaux blend, with the 2021 vintage being particularly big and bold. It is refreshing on the nose with berries interlaced with pink pepper and garrigue notes, whilst dark fruit, chocolate, liquorice, and cloves saturate the palate. For all its power, the wine is elegant with a lovely acidity and a savoury finish. For the ultimate high low experience, pair with a beef burger complete with hard cheese.

How does it taste

This is both powerful and elegant, with notes of berries, pink pepper, and fresh herbs. Ripe tannins are balanced by great acidity, ending on a savoury note.
