The finish is tangy and refreshing

The finish is tangy and refreshing

A barrel-fermented white blend which derives its name from the terraced vineyards leading up the mountains on the estate. This unique blend is led by Chenin Blanc from three distinctive vineyards, with other varieties adding complexity. Chardonnay gives a little more weight on the palate, Sauvignon Blanc brings fresh acidity, and the drop of Viognier gives this vintage a slight spicy, aromatic lift. Keermont Estate sits in a natural amphitheatre between the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountain ranges. It was established in 2003 by the Wraith family, who expanded an existing 8ha of vines (mostly Chenin Blanc) to almost 30ha. A great deal of credit must go to young winemaker Alex Starey, whose experience gleaned from wineries across the world, from the Maipo Valley to the hills of Côte Rôtie, guides his hand. That experience is complemented by a boundless enthusiasm for great wines throughout the world, be they classics or those from off the beaten track.

How does it taste

Yellow gold colour, this wine has an explosive bouquet of lime, apple, hazelnut and peach, with notes of vanilla spice, crushed oyster shell and butterscotch. The palate is textured and vibrant. A weighted entry comes quickly to life with ripe apricot, peach and pear flavours complemented by richer more spicy savoury fruit. This follows into a lingering sweet-sour aftertaste with a light phenolic grip. A thin line of salty acidity gives the wine a succulent finish. Drink 2022-2032.
