Blackshore stout

Blackshore stout

Blackshore Stout’s name was inspired by the black fisherman’s net huts on Southwold Harbour. Described fondly by the Countryside Commission as 'a ramshackle collection of jetties, huts, and sheds,’ the Blackshore area is a photographer’s dream. Collectively, its fisherman’s huts are a reminder of the industry that once supported the town. Painted timber meets black-stained weatherboards, and merges with pitched roofs, corrugated iron, and a juxtaposition of hand-crafted joinery. There is variety in its parts, yet commonality in its whole. Just like Blackshore Stout, with its monumental mash bill, there is a lot crammed in there, but it all adds to its wonderful charm.
Blackshore stout

Description

Blackshore is a smooth, easy-drinking stout, named after the black-tarred fishing huts that line Southwold's harbour. They are individual, characterful and made of sturdy stuff. It is brewed with a hefty mash bill for a rich, broad malt character. You’ll find Pale Ale, Brown, Double Roasted Crystal, and Chocolate malts, alongside Roasted Barley and a hearty helping of oats. This adds a real depth of flavour, that the brewing team are particularly proud of, making it tremendously tasty, but mellow on the finish.

How does it taste

Blackshore Stout is brimming with dark malt flavours of coffee, chocolate, and liquorice, thanks to a generous gesture with the grains. Using oats adds a smoothness and this, coupled with a light hop character, make it easy drinking and exceptionally moreish. Blackshore is hopped with Pilgrim and other British hops for a subtle bitterness and hints of dark hedgerow fruit.

Lovely drop of gear.

Absolutely loved it's dark, chocolately flavour. A lovely, smooth stout.

Excellent, just as described!

Purchased on a visit to Woodbridge, the 1st time I had come across this stout. It was rich, smooth, with a hint of chocolate; not too alcoholic either at just 4.2%. It’s a pity I couldn’t have carried more away with me when I visited as there are no ADNAMS shops near me in South Northants. Home delivery is quite expensive, unless I purchase 36 bottles!!

Adnams does it again

Absolutely delicious. This is possibly my favourite stout of all time. I tried this for the first time a couple of years ago and make it a point to get a least one case a year (I'd have lots more if I wasn't on a budget) This is a properly good stout that I can drink again and again. I treat Blackshore stout as special occasion beer ( a special occasion can be Friday evening after a tough week :-) )
