Bodegas Riojanas winery is steeped in history. Throughout its more than 100 years of winemaking, the bodegas has evolved significantly but the traditions and passion have been passed down to the team that runs Bodegas Riojanas today. Owned by the Artacho family, the modern Bodega of Riojanas houses 26,000 barrels of maturing red wine, thanks to nine major expansions since 1890. With more than 300 hectares of the best vineyards in Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and nearby municipalities, as well as Tempranillo plantings, they also own one of the largest surface areas dedicated to Mazuelo and Graciano in the region which bring a touch of individuality to their wines.

Description

Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in the prized vineyards of La Rioja Alta, Monte Real’s Gran Reserva is it’s aged for 24-30 months in oak barrels followed by an additional 36 months in bottle. The result is a wine that is wonderfully complex. The nose is distinguished by its aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, and macerated plums, followed by notes of black pepper and clove. On the palate, it is juicy and smooth, with a creamy texture and flavours of blackcurrants, sweet spices, and liquorice. As the wine opens, there are hints of vanilla, dark chocolate, and a slight balsamic note. Its finish is elegant, with a fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively and vibrant. Divine with a tapas dish of garlic mushrooms on toasted sourdough.

How does it taste

Red and black fruits and complemented by spice, liquorice and chocolate notes. Beautifully balanced with fresh acidity and smooth, rounded tannins.
