Adnams Extra Special Bitter

Adnams Extra Special Bitter

Much revered in the past because of the high levels of Fuggles, Extra won the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain title at the 1993 Great British Beer Festival. The essence of Extra all those years back was its resinous quality. It was vibrant and punchy, with a whole basket of interesting aromatics that came exclusively from the Fuggle hop. With growing interest in heritage beers, especially bitters, the team is excited to brew it again and has scoured the records, spoken to enthusiasts, and sought out our past brewers to gain a little extra insight into what made it so special. Until now, it has only ever left the brewery in cask, making its appearance in cans extra special.

Description

Extra, an uncompromisingly hoppy Extra Special Bitter from the historic Adnams brewing books, returns as our autumnal seasonal beer. It is remembered for its intense English hop character, thirst-quenching finish, and for winning Champion Beer of Britain in 1993. Previously only available on draught, this is the first time in its history that it's available to enjoy at home, so you're in for a treat.

How does it taste

A copper-coloured classic, brewed with lots of Fuggle hops. It has a gloriously hoppy, floral and herbal aroma which follows through on the palate, where it is balanced by the biscuity fullness of the malts. It has and a dry, tart bitterness and a thirst-quenching finish.
