In 2002, Henri and Daniel Brunier of historic Châteauneuf property Vieux-Télégraphe (a classic cobblestone-strewn estate on the heat-steeped Hill of Crau) thought they'd try bottling their mature-vine Grenache on its own. They were so taken by the result that they've repeated the exercise in subsequent vintages. This cheerily expresses the warm generosity of well-made Grenache: juicy, silky flavours of raspberries, sloes and damsons with hints of aromatic herbs.

Excellent Chateauneuf at a reasonable price

This wine has all the fine characteristics of this great appellation, a fitting cousin of the famous Vieux Telegraphe. Very enjoyable and approachable. I am happy with a chateauneuf with a bit more earthiness than this, but this is purely pleasant and full of fruit colour.
