The Wold's Best

The Wold's Best

Southwold Jack, the guardian of our brewery, is also the striking icon for our distinctive English bitter. He is based on an original ‘Clock Jack’ from St. Edmund's Church, just across the green. Southwold Bitter is brewed with local barley from Holkham in North Norfolk and receives a late dose of Fuggles, which were first sold commercially in 1871, the year before Adnams was founded. Revered as classic English hop, their careful selection has helped us maintain continuity over the years. Another enduring element is our in-house yeast, which makes a beer uniquely Adnams, and breathes life, as well as flavour into Southwold.
The Wold's Best
  • The Telegraph

A gentle pairing for flatbreads, with not too strong New World hop character, but something to pull forward that nutty buckwheat taste. The light, grassy aroma from English Fuggles hops will elevate the flavours while refreshing your palate.

Description

Try the Wold's Best. Our copper-coloured bitter is brewed with East Anglian malt and emboldened by the late addition of herbal Fuggles, for an authentic hit of English hops. It's full of genuine character, like its namesake-our coastal hometown.

How does it taste

Southwold Bitter's distinctive, thirst-quenching, herbal hoppiness provides a genuine English bitter experience. Biscuity malts and light, caramelised toffee notes balance its classic English hop character. They are added late in the brewing process to maintain their wonderful aromas and create a long, lingering, resinous finish on the palate.
