In the foggy past, patrons of The Bell Inn, our 600-year-old pub in the neighbouring village of Walberswick, told tall tales of ghostly ships that haunted the shore. The seeds of those stories were likely sown by smugglers in a plot to keep the coast clear, but they went on to inspire our best-selling brew. Back in 2010, our brewers spent an evening enjoying Walberswick's pubs with visiting brewers from American, who raved about a new US hop variety called Citra. We decided to try it at the next opportunity and built Ghost Ship 4.5% Pale Ale's recipe around it. It truly is a beer born of fireside conversations and stories told in pubs along the Suffolk coast.

    Cooking over a grill is thirsty work. It's not practical to keep traipsing back into the kitchen to keep refreshed, so why not keep a 5-litre keg on standby instead. Full of summery citrus notes with an underlying attractive bitterness, it's the equivalent of about eight pints, perfect for a little gathering.

Description

Our best-selling beer is inspired by tall tales of the ghostly ships that haunted the shores of Walberswick. Enjoy whispers of aromatic elderflower, bold citrus and gooseberry flavours, with hints of warming rye spice. Our mini-kegs contain around eight pints, or five litres, of delicious award-winning beer; making them perfect for parties, barbecues, or celebratory gatherings. They are ready to use immediately, and if securely sealed after each use, will last up to four days once opened.

How does it taste

Ghost Ship 4.5% Pale Ale is brewed with Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara Malts which add depth and moreish, biscuity hints. A blend of Citra and American and UK hop varieties provide Ghost Ship's bold citrus flavours of lemon and lime, aromatic elderflower notes, and that wonderful hoppy finish.
