Distiller’s Choice 12-Year-Old Single Malt English Whisky

We’re excited to announce our whisky has reached its 12-year milestone - still something quite special in the English Whisky world. Filled on 7th October 2011, it passed its official fill date in early October and its release is an exciting first for the Copper House Distillery.

Bottled as part of the Distiller’s Choice range, and presented in a smart branded gift box, our 12-Year-Old Single Malt is made with 100% East Anglian malted barley. This particular expression has matured in ex-bourbon casks and offers a tantalising taste of our future.

Small batch and copper pot stilled, Adnams Single Malt Whisky is matured in new French oak barrles, but we do add some spirit that’s matured in ex-bourbon barrels for some extra complexity, in a ration of around ten French to one bourbon. Using less of the bourbon has naturally led to it reaching twelve first.

This release is non-chill filtered and cask strength at 51.2% abv. It has been hand-bottled by Daniel and John in the distillery team, who have lovingly applied multiple labels and straps and placed each one carefully in its presentation box.

Our head distiller, John McCarthy, is thrilled to finally share it. “We made this spirit during our first full year as distillers, and it has been resting undisturbed in our cellars. Twelve is quite a milestone for a whisky to reach, wherever it was made. Although not that unusual in Scotland or Ireland, an English 12-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky will remain a rarity for some time to come. It was a pleasure to broach the barrels and finally see what it had become.”

Simply add a splash of chilled spring water according to taste and savour something truly special. It is amber in colour with aromas of butterscotch, banana and date-liked honeyed dried fruit. Flavours of vanilla and ripe figs follow, with light spice on the finish.
