Perfect for cocktails!

We've been creating a range of cocktails for you to enjoy a home featuring our delicious Adnams spirits. We often use sugar syrup in these cocktails and wanted to share our how to guide with you on how to make your own at home.

Simple sugar syrup

So to start, take an equal measure of sugar and water, you can use granulated or caster sugar.

Combine in a pan and bring to the boil, you want all the sugar crystals to disolve into the water.

Once the sugar has dissolved bring down to a low heat and allow to simmer for around 10 minutes.

Pour into a container and pop into your fridge to cool, you are looking for a thin consistancy which is easy to pour.

Once cooled add to your cocktail creations! The sugar syrup will last for up to a week in the fridge.

Flavoured Sugar syrups

Use the same volume of sugar to water ie a 1 cup of each, or 150mls, or even just use a small dish like a ramekin to measure.

Put the sugar and water in a small saucepan and mix together.

Then add in your flavouring to the pan, turn on the heat and gentle cook on a low boil for about 10mins or until reduced to a nice syrupy consistency.

Just consider anything that has a higher water content like fruit might need to be simmered for longer to reduce it down. If it goes too thick don’t worry, it can easily be thinned out a bit with a dash of water whilst still on the heat.

Leave to cool before use.

Have fun experimenting with flavours!

For our Mango and Ginger syrup we added a good handful of thawed frozen mango and around 1.5cms of chopped fresh ginger.
Once slightly cooled we strained this through a small sieve before using to remove any bits.
