Adnams East Green
Tasting notes
A light golden beer with subtle citrus and grassy hop aromas, dry and refreshing, with well-balanced bitterness. Brewed with locally sourced barley, grown and malted in East Anglia and English Boadicea hops.
What’s the story?
East Green is a pale blonde beer that began life as an effort to produce an environmentally responsible beer that had flavour and integrity in equal balance. We wanted to design a beer that uses a minimum amount of energy without compromising on quality.
We use Pale Ale malted barley grown and malted in East Anglia, and Boadicea hops, which are grown in Suffolk’s only commercial hop yard. We chose Boadicea as not only is it available locally but it is also an aphid resistant hop. Aphids, as anyone who has a hop plant growing in their garden will know, love hops, and so aphicides are sprayed during the season. Boadicea is naturally resistant to aphids so this cuts down on the amount of pesticides that have to be used.
All that aside, we also think it is a great hop. It has a fantastic grassy lemon quality that works so well with this beer. We use the hops at 3 stages during the brewing process in order to maximise the flavour we get from it.

Thanks for your comments, we are delighted to hear that you have found a beer that you like within the Adnams range. As your preference is for lighter beers, try Explorer, particularly straight from the fridge. Personally I think it is the perfect accompaniment to a curry as it cuts through the spiciness and has a clean refreshing taste. Good luck with your exploration.
I have to say I very much enjoy East Green. I am relatively new to beer drinking, so I prefer lighter beers and am really pleased you brought out East Green. You’ve got a nice spread of beers to suit all.
Hi Peter, Sorry you didn’t like East Green.
It is more a golden ale lager style beer and if Broadside is your prefered tipple then this is quite a way removed from East Green and Explorer.
If you like Broadside then you might like our Gunhill which is a much richer and fuller style of beer.
Hi Purchased a couple of your East Green last saturday.
But firstly I really like the Broadside and the best honest, but this one, sorry, it left me bitterly dissapointed, as the Explorer has in the past, please let this not be the way forward. I don’t often get Adnams in Farnham and have to resort to bottles in case of a Adnams flavour drought….
Thanks for listening good luck for 2010
Peter
