Golden-chestnut colour with a golden rim

Blandy's Reserva is matured for 5 years in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ ageing system – whereby wines are matured in small oak casks in the Blandy’s Lodge, Funchal. Exposed to the natural heat of Madeira’s sub-tropical climate, the sugars slowly and gently caramelise. The wine also oxidises and evaporates. Our angels share is high, with up to 15% evaporating in the first years. In total the Reserva will lose an average of 7% of its volume over its 5 years of ageing! Blandy's also only use the islands ‘noble’ grape varieties for this wine. In a highly unorthodox move Bual and Malmsey are blended (50/50) to create a unique rich Madeira that has the earthy, spicy nuttiness of Bual and the rich, dried fruit flavours of Malmsey The perfect contemporary Madeira for seasoned fans and those new to the Madeira category. Serve with caramel, nut or cooked fruit desserts (Xmas pudding is a must!) or with a cheese board In 1808 John Blandy left London to work in the accounting office of a wine merchants in Madeira. He got a taste for life on island and the trade in its wines. So much so that by 1811, he had established his own shipping company with his brothers Thomas and George. Over 200 years later and the company John founded is still owned and managed by his family. A unique achievement given that of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade, the Blandy’s are the only family who can make this claim. Today it is 7th generation family member, Chris Blandy who manages the company. They are the world’s leading and most awarded producer of premium Madeira wine, winning an astounding 72 Gold Medals and 22 Trophies at international wine competitions. 3 of these trophies were awarded to their winemaker, Francisco Albuquerque, who has been named “Fortified Wine Maker of the Year” at The International Wine Challenge for three consecutive years.
