An exciting slice of Bordeaux.

An exciting slice of Bordeaux.

We chose the wines from the Sichel family for a good reason. First and foremost, the quality is undisputedly there, we always know each wine is not only truly representative of its appellation, but full of character to boot. The second reason is that this is not just a box of six good clarets but a journey around this most famous of all wine regions giving a profile of the wine styles of the most significant appellations. Lastly, and sometimes the most difficult to achieve, they represent good value for money. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Description

We love working with Bordeaux Negociant, Maison Sichel. Our favorite week in January is working with them to blend the new vintage of our Adnams Claret. At the same time we look at the rest of their extensive range of properties they represent to put together our six-bottle selection for that autumn. This case contains: Chateau Daviaud 2019, AOC Bordeaux The nose is expressive on notes of fruit and lots of spice; it reveals ripeness and is very fresh. On the palate, this wine is charming, with surprising fullness, smoothness and also a lot of depth. 45% Merlot - 21% Cabernet Franc - 19% Cabernet Sauvignon - 15% Malbec 1883 2020, AOC Bordeaux This ruby-colored wine displays an intense nose with ripe cherry flavors and a silky finish. On the palate it is round and supple, with beautiful notes of red fruits and soft tannins. No added sulphur. 100% Merlot Chateau Breillan 2019, AOC Haut Médoc Beautiful, intense and deep ruby color. The nose presents a beautiful complexity marked by notes of red fruits, vanilla and spices. The front palate is round and powerful accompanied by notes of cherry and blackcurrant. Precise and with a beautiful texture, the wine is punctuated by a nice slightly mineral length 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc Clos Béard 2018, AOC Saint Emilion This wine is charming right away, by its beautiful deep sheen showing dark purples tints and by the delicacy of its aromas of red fruit on a backdrop of spices. On the palate, it feels creamy smooth with long-lasting structure given by delicious, fleshy tannins. All these qualities make Clos Béard superb! Clos Béard 2018 gives everything one would expect in a wine that comes from this exceptional terroir: elegance, delicacy and refinement. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc Pauillac, 2018 The deep red colour of this cuvée sets the tone for the tasting: elegance and intensity. Beneath an spicy layer (nutmeg and toasted bread), the equally elegant bouquet unveils sustained, overripe dark and red fruit scents and earthy aromas. After a chewy attack, the ample, rounded structure unfolds, culminating in a long balanced finish. A wine that reveals all the richness of this exceptional terroir. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc Marquis de Bellefont 2011 AOC Saint Emilion Grand Cru: A classic right bank Bordeaux with a bit of bottle ageing, dominated by Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, lots of ripe, rich red fruits, velvety tannins and a long finish. A shining example of St Emilion Grand Cru's potential. 72 % Merlot, 17 % Cabernet Franc, 11 % Cabernet Sauvignon
