The Big Taste Weekend, Holkham
This Bank Holiday Weekend (1st – 3rd May 2010) all Adnams Cellar & Kitchen Stores have open around 50 wines for a tasting extravaganza. A number of the wine team from the Maltstore headed off to various stores on the first day of the event, and my destination was Holkham – a gorgeous shop situated in what used to be the old School House at Holkham Estate.

Amongst all the wines we had available to taste, a few really stood out for our customers. Tasters loved the organic Bardolino from Fasilo Gino in Italy – an attractive mix of cherries and earthy forest fruits, along with hallmark Italian elegance and style. Another red that went down well was Berton Vineyards‘ Coonawarra Cabernet -pure, concentrated blackcurrants, along with a touch of mint and a smooth finish – fabulous on a sunny Saturday.

In the whites, we had lots of interest in an Austrian Riesling from Gobelsburg. I think it was a treat for many people to try something a bit different, and this Riesling was being selected by a number of tasters who were cooking fish suppers when they returned home. Forrest Estate’s Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough was as popular as ever, and was being re-tasted by Forrest fans who were already familiar with it but love it so much they couldn’t resist a taste; great stuff. It was a real pleasure to meet so many people who were keen to explore the wonderful world of wine whilst enjoying the delights of Holkham.
