Constant change

One of the best things about having a ‘patch’ is that you can see the effect of change on animals, plants and the built / natural environment over time. By patch, I mean a place that you visit frequently, and can therefore see evolving - a backyard, a park, a garden – anywhere that you know well and can register change. Little islands of Suffolk make up my patch, and one treasured spot is Covehithe beach.

There have been several sculptures emerging, disappearing and reappearing in different forms over the last few years along the beach at Covehithe. Built from an assortment of discarded items such as buckets, shoes, clothes and fishing debris, supported by driftwood and the more solid bits of jetsam, these sculptures grow and reform by different people adding found items, whilst the sea and wind takes away what bits they can.

In just a month, the sculpture has changed, as has the beach level.
