Supporting Suffolk’s elite athletes
Southwold-based brewer Adnams has pledged to support two of Suffolk’s elite athletes by raising money for Suffolk SportsAid Foundation’s Destination Gold initiative.
Destination Gold is a new programme aimed at inspiring businesses to use of the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to raise money to support Suffolk’s most talented athletes.
The Suffolk SportsAid Foundation, which is behind this major new initiative, has pledged to provide companies with an opportunity to associate themselves with world-class athletes. Adam Baker, Suffolk Project Manager for the 2012 Games explains: “We are asking local companies to effectively ‘adopt’ an athlete, to help them in their ultimate goal of representing Team GB, and Suffolk, at the most memorable sporting event in the world – the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Adnams is today announcing its commitment to support two of Suffolk’s brightest 2012 prospects – triathlete Abbie Thorrington and wheelchair racer Brian Alldis. Commenting of the initiative Managing Director Andy Wood said, “This is a fantastic project which Adnams is proud to support. London 2012 presents many opportunities for businesses in Suffolk and by ‘adopting’ Abbie and Brian, Adnams will feel very much involved in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Brian Alldis competed amongst the elite wheelchair racers at the London Marathon last weekend and has had recent success in winning the Silverstone and Reading half marathons.
