Adnams buys famous Suffolk pubs
Two of the pubs are situated on the River Orwell, with the third on the River Deben and all are known for serving great beers, wine and food and have a far-reaching reputation. Chairman, Jonathan Adnams comments, “We are delighted that these pubs have become available as they fit perfectly with the Adnams brand and our long-term objectives to build a quality estate of pubs in our heartland of Suffolk.
Adnams continues, “For many years we have thought that these pubs would fit perfectly within our estate and when the opportunity arose we were delighted to complete the purchase from Punch Taverns. Despite these tough trading times, we have every confidence that excellent pubs will continue to thrive. All at Adnams are hugely excited about welcoming these pubs and their successful operators to the Adnams estate and we look forward to becoming custodians of these splendid examples of iconic Suffolk pubs.”
Steve and Louise Lomas of Deben Inns have been running the Maybush, in Waldringfield, near Woodbridge and the Butt & Oyster, situated in the hamlet of Pin Mill on the river Orwell for many years.
Mark and Stella Johnson are hugely well known at the 14th century Ship in the picturesque village of Levington. The pub is an ancient smuggler’s inn overlooking the river Orwell and is famous for great food and beer served straight from the cask.
These three pubs will join other riverside locations in the Adnams estate, such as the Harbour Inn at Southwold, the Bell at Walberswick, the Jolly Sailor at Orford, the Ship at Burnham-on-Crouch and the Bridge House, a stone’s throw from the river Thames.
