Community National Awards for ExcellenceAdnams receives Eco-efficiency Award at Business in the Community National Awards for Excellence Gala 2008

Adnams has beaten 350 other companies to secure one of the UK’s leading awards for responsible business.

Adnams received the Eco-efficiency Award at the Business in the Community National Awards for Excellence Gala 2008 held at the Royal Albert Hall in July.

The company was honoured for ‘taking a strategic, comprehensive and innovative approach to reducing resource use and waste’, with its innovations including an eco-efficient distribution centre and brewery and a carbon-neutral beer brand – East Green.

Erdogan Pekenc, Managing Director, Lafarge Cement UK who chaired the judging panel said: “A toast to Adnams for providing a model of how to do business in a resource-constrained world. This is a company working to improve the environmental impact of its entire value chain and using its relationship with consumers to drive simple and engaging environmental messages in the marketplace. Examples of innovation include an eco-efficient distribution centre and brewery and its carbon neutral beer brand which are not only industry-leading but also fun and inspiring.”

Now in their 11th year, the Business in the Community Awards for Excellence reward companies across the UK with a coveted ‘Big Tick’ award for the positive impact of responsible business activities in the marketplace, workplace, environment and community.

And a quote from Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community:

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community said: “Adnams winning the Lafarge Cement UK Eco-efficiency Award is a great  accomplishment. It is a key example of how companies can use raw materials intelligently and productively, and remain competitive in doing so.”

Adnams received a ‘Big Tick’ in the Regional round of the awards, which were presented in June and has now been recognized a national example of good environmental business practice.

Andy Wood, Adnams’ Managing Director (pictured above middle) commented, “We are delighted to win this prestigious Business in the Community award. To be a finalist against some of the biggest companies in the world is an achievement in itself and to win is absolutely fantastic. At Adnams, wherever possible, our aim is to make decisions that are good for business and also good for the environment. We know that there is much more we can do and the key will be working with our suppliers and customers to overcome challenges and adopt new innovations to achieve our eventual aim of becoming carbon neutral.

Thanks go to Business in the Community who continue their excellent role in pricking the conscience of business and encouraging us all to look at our practice to make improvements where possible.

Everyone at Adnams has worked hard to reduce our carbon footprint; recognition such as this is well deserved for all their efforts.”
