Adnams Old Ale 4.1% abv available now

With the turning back of the clocks signalling the arrival of darker evenings and colder weather, we welcome the return of our traditional winter warmer Old Ale.

Using one of Adnams’ oldest recipes, this is a mild ale style beer brewed with East Anglian pale ale and Crystal malted barley and Boadicea hops. It’s dark red brown in colour with an aroma of toffee and nutty chocolate. The toffee and chocolate also come through on the palette along with hints of red fruits, malt and roast grain, all balanced by a smooth bitterness.

So whether you’ve just endured a bracing walk in the chilled winter air or spent the day wrestling the crowds whilst Christmas shopping, reward yourself with a pint of Old.

Available from October to January on cask in selected outlets. Also available in mini-cask from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen Stores and online for a limited period.

    Thanks – relieved of Bungay!

Poly-pins of Old can be ordered from your nearest Cellar & Kitchen Store. We only fill Poly pins of Old Ale to order and would recommend that you place your order at least three weeks before you plan to collect from the store.

The Three Chimneys have taken a delivery of Old Ale today so it should be on the pumps shortly.

can you tell me if the Three chimneys at Biddenden are stocking old this year?

Hope you enjoy it, we have used Boadicea hops in it for the past 3 years, the hops in Old are very much in the background and I think Boadicea works well in it.

A few years back when Adnams stopped Old ale my mate said Christmas has been cancelled this year. Always had a polypin at Chrismas and enjoyed Mother-in-law (Old and Bitter) in Adnams pubs. Will have to get some mini casks down here in Shropshire for Christmas! Hope the use of Bodica hops does not detract from the flavour too much compared with Fuggles and Goldings. Long live Adnams Old!

Tried this beer for the first time about a year ago and really enjoyed it. Its a shame its only made for the winter, I could drink it all year round, and for a change I would have a few broadsides. Must also try the Oak aged Vodka soon.

had the last pint (In fact the last 2/3 of a pint) last night 150211. Lets hope this Summer soon passes and Old is available again. Roll on the Winter!

    Hi Donna,

Tally Ho has been brewed since 1880 but I don’t think the S.S. Pierce bottle has anything to do with us. They were a grocer in Boston from around 1831. Although they did import beer I can’t find any reference to us exporting our Tally Ho.
I found a Tally Ho beer on this website which might be a better lead for you to follow up. http://www.beercanconnection.com. Let us know if you do find anything else out.

How long has this beer been around?? I have a nice antique glass bottle with raised lettering saying “Tally-Ho” and underneath “S.S. Pierce Co. The glass is a tinged purple color and is very old seeded heavy glass. A little scratched due to age, really solid material, no chips. Do you think there is any relation to this brand? I have pictures and may be posting it on ebay soon. Please contact me with any info or if interested. Thanks, Donna

Try contacting your local Adnams Cellar & Kitchen store (details on the adnams.co.uk website) as they are sometimes able to order ‘Old Ale’ in 36pint Poly Pins for home drinking (aswell as the other beers) great over christmas, you’ll suddenly find you’re everyones best friend!
