Adnams hold 2008 beer prices
Whilst some in the sector have increased prices close to 7% Adnams has pledged to absorb rising raw materials and utility costs and not pass them on to pubs. Commenting on the move, Adnams Managing Director Andy Wood said, “Adnams is committed to supporting licensees and pub companies throughout this economic downturn. Our last increase was implemented over 9 months ago and we have made a promise that with the exception of duty increases, Adnams beer prices will remain at 08 levels for the remainder of the year.
“Many of our customers have been loyal to the Adnams brand for many years and appreciate that of our premium-priced cask beers add value to their business. We know that these are the toughest trading conditions we have experienced in decades and Adnams is itself anticipating that profits will be lower than 2007, as a result we fully understand the pressures on these businesses and will alleviate the current situation where possible.”
Adnams is the first regional brewer to announce a price freeze for the full period of 2009. The company owns 71 pubs in East Anglia and London; the majority of the Adnams beer brands, which include Adnams Bitter, Broadside, Explorer and East Green, are sold directly to free trade and national pub companies.
